Is this Alkaline water?

Yes. The water reads between 7.5 - 9.0. Tap water should read between 6.5 - 9.0 to prevent acidic water from leaching chemicals from pipes it passes through.

How long does the cartridge last?

This depends on number and duration of showers taken. If 2 people take one ten minute shower per day, a cartridge should last between 4 - 6 months.

I have a water softener isn't this the same thing?

No. Sodium (salt) based water softeners are known for making tap water "softer". They do not filter or purify tap water which means chlorine and chloramine remain present in your "softened" water.

Can I use this on my dog?

Yes! Our pet's skin and coats love clean water. 

Is this system like reverse osmosis?

No. Reverse osmosis is a way to eliminate contaminates and soften water, however it waste a lot of water. They use about three times as much water as they treat.
